Advantage of forums

Till now I've participated in many forums to get some valuable answers.But I can't understand what's the advantage of making a forum for the administrator.One reason behind it may be to promote own's websites or products.But I can't understand how to monetize a forum !Will you please tell me some advantages of making a forum ?

Great question. You're right, there doesn't really seem to be much advantage for the administrator of the forum.

I think the real advantages are for the members who get to network with other members and share ideas and experiences.

That's quite right.  The sad realities is that forums are hardly monetized, except for selling ads on the space, or using the forums and the networks you gain for it for your own business.

But think of it as a service.  Not everything one does should be about earning money.  If you can help put together people who can work together, and if you can help people with the information your forums provide, why not? 

Aside from the karma points, you also build a name for yourself.  Once a forum becomes valuable, it'd be easy to monetize it if you're so inclined.
