There have been a lot of people asking me lately about forum marketing and how to go about it, so here are 7 quick tips to give you a good foundation.

1.   Join relevant forums that are in some way related to your promotion's niche. For example, someone involved with a business opportunity product, many types of forums could apply….everything from stay at home moms to ecommerce forums.

2.   Choose popular forums.  There is no point in wasting your time and energy on forums that have few members and very few posts. Page rank and the amount of active members are two good ways to check for this.

3.   Choose forums that allow you to create and display your link in your signature.  If it’s possible read the rules before joining and pay attention to them. Your time is important, too.  It is better to find out that a forum doesn’t allow posts with sig tags before you go to the time and trouble of joining.

After You Have Joined: OK…you have found a few forums that meet your requirements…now what?

4.   Keep your signature brief and update it regularly.

5.   Do not create posts that are nothing more than an advertisement. This is a common rule and only displays someone's lack of experience if they do that.  At best a post like that will be deleted by the moderators….at worst and more likely, will result in that person getting banned from the forum and blacklisted throughout most internet communities. Your reputation is important, so work to protect it.

6.   Work the room.  Be an active and regularly contributing member on the forum. Plan to invest at least a half an hour each day there and invest the time to get to know your other members. Take the time to introduce yourself with thought-provoking questions depending upon the forum’s topic of discussion.

As you become a regular member, you'll begin to build a solid rep and without even having to mention your offers, those who are interested in your products will approach you.

7.Oh yes, you can also get some great info by using the search feature to see what the hot topics are so you'll know what's of interest to most people along with common problems and even find answers to questions you may have had. This can provide valuable insight and save you hours of time and money off research.

The important thing is to take advantage of the wealth of information available.
