This is where we discuss how to locate desirable forums related to our niche target market,
how to join and contribute value while also identifying mutually satisfying, profitable ventures.

Of course what forum experience is complete without adding your links to your signature?

I think most of us who have niche sites/blogs/forums have probably found places to hang out where their forum sigs will be relevant. The only thing I wonder is regarding blogs; is it okay to post your sig as a link within a comment although they usually don't automatically do this?

I always put my link in on a blog comment it asks for it so why not put it? I am not sure about putting it in the comment I think most people would think it is spam and not allow your comment to show. Not sure maybe someone can pipe in and tell us more.

Inserting links uobtrusively should be Ok if done tastefully and sparingly.  But remember only to do this in moderation as over-doing it will alienate your audience and potential customers.

I agree that you really shouldn't put a link in the body of the blog comment itself as it could come off as too self-promotional which is a turn off for not only the blog owner, but also the readers who may otherwise click on your name which is usually where the link to your website is.  Grin

One thing I've seen more frequently for the last couple of years or so is that more people are putting their targeted search phrase or keyword as their name or some variation of it in the place for their name and of course the link that it is anchored to,
goes to their web site.

To me, it seems that may border on too promotional as well. However, the fact remains that the name could be the name of a company which then would make sense and make it a more viable strategy providing that it is tastefully done and converts well after testing.

Of course, that's more to do with blogs than forums.

If there is a place provided for your url, which usually appears when you enter your screen name and email address, that is the place for your link.  Placing it within your comment is considered spam by most blog owners I know.

Fair enough. I've never done it before because I always sort of thought it would be in bad taste but I was curious what everyone else's opinions on the practice were. Good to know!

Do you have a site that's similar to Digitalpoint/Sitepoint? I think similar content is key to keeping things in line and actually attracting the kind of demographic that you're looking for.

Most webmasters & blogger don't forget to put a signature link in their posts on various forums. That's one of the way to attract visitors & another good thing in it is the increase in backlinks which helps for improving PR.

One of the things you guys might want to look into is blog commenting.  You'd be surprised at the amount of traffic you could get by linking from a high-traffic blog.  Plus, it gets you ranked higher in google too.
