I would never knowingly use them but being very new to traffic generation, I worry that I might inadvertently do so out of ignorance. Are there red flags I should know about that would help me spot them and give me a headsup on what to avoid? I want everything to be above board that I do on my site. Any tips would be gratefully received.

Maybe I'm worrying over nothing... Undecided

I use digg.com. Is that considered a black hat technique? Huh?

Hey Ricky,

Digg is not blackhat and there's nothing to worry about.

Maybe, those traffic surfs can be considered as black hat method because they aren?t interested on the site that they are visiting.  I have used them in the past but they are just sending me some low quality visitors to my site.

For me, I am extra wary of paid stuff, like those advertising to increase your ranking in just as little as one month.  I have been burned badly by one company that left me down in the results ranking after being 5th and after I terminated their services.

I think there is no quick way to gain traffic, you have to build it over time.

I think there is no need to worry about these techniques.
But limit doing this to an optimum extent.

Black hat tech is an unethical way of SEO such as using software to spam, generating traffic using software, etc. So basically, white hat tech is what we do normally and generic, but black hat use any method that can make someone get more traffic or PR or whatever it is in an instant way. In short, you get the best result in an unethical way  Shocked

Don't worry about black hat SEO.

You cant do black hat unknowingly.

You are basically only involved in Black Hat techniques if you know you are... If you just market in natural places where thousands of people go you will be absolutely fine! Social bookmarking is great, and not blackhat.

Articles, videos, forums and things like that will greatly help you in your traffic efforts.

The only thing that really is blackhat is "spam tools" and "automated bots" and "robots" etc. If you are not using those kinds of things you are totally OK.

Go attract some traffic Wink

I totally support the reply made by ChrisStigson. You will never be involved into black hat unknowingly.
