Hello All,

I originally made this post in another forum.  Doug Barger asked me to post the thread here on the Top Traffic  Forum so you didn't have to leave to access it.  Looking forward to talking and working with you guys.

-----------

I have been in the game for a little while....longer than some, shorter than others. And, regardless of whatever site I happened to be an affiliate for, or maybe I was marketing my own site....there has always been the burning question of:

How Do I Get Traffic To My Site?

This is the one that has certainly kept me up late at night, much to my wife's dismay.

I know that since the dawn of Internet Marketing there have been posts about getting traffic to your site. So, I realize that for some of you more experienced out there you will recognize a few of these as oldies but sometimes goodies.

And, I like some others think that we should bring these subjects back around periodically. So, if you think I am being to basic with this post go grab a Starbucks and surf a few other posts (I say this with a smile on my face, and that is how I mean it).

Gettting Traffic - How Do You Get It:

1. DO build a compelling site, squeeze page, etc. Because if your site or page can improve getting traffic there is irrelevant!

2. DO write or have articles written for the site and submit them to article marketing services. I recommend the ones that will blast your article to thousands of sites.

3. DO write something very good about your niche (site) and send it to bloggers in your niche. They are always looking for good content.

4. DO post in forums, especially ones that cater to your niche. Include a signature link in your posts.

5. DO write a press release and get it distributed. It will cost you only $40 with some of the better services to get your PR picked up.

6. DO use Pay-Per-Click services like Google, and Yahoo. But, be careful here. You need to start out with a tiny budget ($25-$50 a day) and test, test, test.

7. DO mention your website in a post on Craigs List (do not spam though).

8. DO buy Text Link Ads for your site. The best thing to do would be to buy them on sites that cater to your niche. For instance, if you have a Stock Market related product you would want to get text link ads on financial sites.

9. DO buy / get reviews to your site on other people's sites. This is a good one that I have used. It can work well.

10. DO send out Solo Ads to ezines that cater to your niche.

11. DO buy banners on other people's sites. But, only if you can track the traffic and get a good ROI.

12. DO create pages and links on community sites like MySpace, and Facebook, and Squidoo (I know it is a pain, but these can work).

13. DO create a free product about your site / niche and give it away (be sure to include a link in your giveaway to your site). I would recommend a report with a catchy title. It is best to do titles like "3 Ways To Get Thin" or "5 Ways To Get Rich", etc.
These types of titles get read and distributed more.

14. DO buy ads, if you can on any forum or site that caters to your niche (I know I mentioned something like this above, but it is very important).

15. DO submit videos to YouTube and MetaCafe about your niche.

16. DO advertise in newspapers (yes, I said newspapers) if your product lends itself to this type of advertising. You would be shocked at how many IM'ers completely disregard this type of advertising.

17. DO advertise in online classified ads. They are cheap and can send you some good traffic.

18. DO find people to Joint Venture with. This is a big one.

19. DO answer questions on Yahoo Answers...if it relates to your niche (the traffic will come). Be sure to include a sig file on your posts.

20. DO leave comments on other people's blogs with links back to your site. This is a pretty good one.

21. DO use a Tell-A-Friend script on your site. People will send you viral traffic!

22. DO submit your site to as many free listing directories as you can stand to do. It is time consuming, and a pain but you may get some good traffic out of it long term.

----

There are plenty of other ways to get traffic, but these should be enough to keep any of us glued to our computers for quite a while.

Good luck and success to you,
Austin

I was just wondering, is it better to write your own articles or to have them written? I have heard it is better but would like someone else's opinion.

I know its normal for us to want to have more control over the quality of articles that we have written. Hence we tend to prefer writing articles ourselves. However that prevents us from scaling up the article writing as we have to invest our own time in.

For niches that I use a pen name. I always get someone else to write the content. For those that I want to keep my real name and build my own name. I mix it up 50-50% with articles I write myself and those written for me.

Please do share your opinions.

Hey Alvin  Grin

Yes, I think that is right on.

(It's what I do too.) Of course, we'd like to be able to just sit and write day and night,
but that wouldn't be the most productive use of our time.

If we got so bogged down creating content, then how would other things get done?

On the other hand, we do want to have editorial/authorship power over our work published in our name,
so having them written and then looking them over to make sure they are okay to put our name to before
having them published or publishing them ourselves helps in that way.

Yes, sometimes there will be some ghostwritten articles that will pass through without necessarily meeting the quality standards that we had hoped, which is why it is important to know the quality of the ghostwriters
before trusting them completely to be able to produce your work and publish it.

By communicating clearly with your "article writers" what you want the articles to accomplish, the target market, the keywords and phrases needed and titles before they start, you are far more likely to get the results you are looking for.

I do about 50-50 too.

I'd like to do all my writing, but having a team in place makes your business more productive than one could ever be alone.

Doug

PS.Of course, I'll let you in on a secret to be able to determine which ones are the 50% that Alvin and I wrote and which ones are the 50% that ghostwriters wrote. The ones we wrote are the Good ones, right Alvin?  Cheesy

One of the best posts I've found on methods of attracting traffics. One thing I want to add here so that other members will be benefited from it.Adding website url in different search engines & webdirectories will also drive traffics. And lastly, participating in link exchange programs will enhance traffics to websites.

If you do not have that much patience, you can always buy some traffic and pump it to your site. This will also increase your branding and of course if your content is rich enough, you would be getting repeat visitors. Send a PM if you need traffic.

Great article on the 22 ways to get web traffic now. Really enjoy reading it!

I just wanted to add that on-page optimization (SEO) should not be neglected too. Generated traffic through this method may not be instant. But if done correctly from the start , it will certainly help to get your listing appear in the first few pages of the organic search engines result page easier. It's free advertising and a longer term strategy.

It's not really rocket science as some people may think. SEO is simply a technique that everyone can implement. Here are a few tips you might want to implement right away:

a) Your Domain Name should include your keywords or phrases in it.

b) The Title Tag and Description Tag of each page should contain your keywords or phrases as well.

c) Your keywords or phrases should appear on the first paragraph of your page content.

d) Include keywords in your Image Alternate Tags.

e) The File Names or URLs, should include your keywords, for example www.yourdomain/keyword.html.

f) Use keywords in your H1 and H2 Tag.

f) Content is King, therefore, whether you write your own articles, using ghostwriters or PLRs, make sure they are unique and fresh. Remember to sprinkle your keywords along the way. BUT do not overdo it!

Continue with your off-page optimization process. Use some of the methods described by Austin to build backlinks to your site - if possible, one way backlinks from higher PR rank sites.

Hope this contribution here will further help to drive more targeted traffic to your website.

Cheers!  Smiley

Excellent addition. I'm really glad you included the words *unique and fresh* in your letter 'f'.

I was just wondering, is it better to write your own articles or to have them written? I have heard it is better but would like someone else's opinion.

Personally.  I've been able to write all my content myself.  I know it's hard because I get writers block from time to time, but I think it's good to do about one article a week.  Maybe after a different product each time.  It will help you think about different things to write.

Thanks for sharing that. I totally understand from a personal standpoint where you're coming from on why I believe you may prefer to write for yourself. It may be because you feel like you're being true to yourself. And that's a way I've felt for a long time too.

From a business standpoint, there are times when you may need to sort of be the
'chief' and have people do some writing assignments for you that you can oversee before
you publish it.

That's also perfectly good.

Now as to the fool-proof formula for instantly curing writer's block forever,
if you're thinking I was going to say, "There is none" that would be a mistake!

Because there most certainly is!

You see, when we're writing, there are 2 two mindsets at work with us.

One is the writing mindset. The other is the critical mindset (our own internal editor).

When you're experiencing "writer's block" it's because you are
prematurely getting into that 'critical' mind or "editing mode".

So, to instantly cure it forever,

what you need to do is just write without being critical.

It doesn't matter how it looks, sounds, flows or even how you've spelled your words.

Just get it out there.

Open a vein and let it flow.

That's when you're getting out your best ideas and thoughts on the matter
down in black and white.

Now, only after you've done all that,

you can now put on your "editor's cap"

and be as critical as you want!

The secret to this formula is to postpone being the editor until it's time for the editor.

And that's only AFTER the writer is finished.

Selah.

So if you just write and get it out at first, you can always go back and correct it later.

That way, it's a lot easier because you've actually got that
work already done in front of you.

It's a lot easier to edit the heck out of some writing

than it is to try to come up with some writing in the first place.

So that's the way to cure it.

Just write first and then edit later.

You'll be amazed at how this can create some major breakthroughs for you
when you apply it for yourself!

Thanks for mentioning writer's block. It gave me the opportunity to share
the cure for it!
