I only know a bit of the basics regarding what will backfire on developers who use 'bad' traffic generation methods but would be curious to know more about this.

I'm aware that certain practices will get you knocked back in Google's PR system or otherwise penalize you. What are these? Any tips from those who have had this happen to them?

I dont know any! I didnt even know that could happen with Google. Can you let me know what methods you know about? I do think that the payperpost is keeping a lot of blogs at 0 which really can improve! I know a few that were PR3 and then did the payperpost and they got dropped to 0.

Perhaps by bad you mean ineffective or harmful in that it has adverse effects on your pagerank and visitors.

Yes anything that is too "over the top" in its purely promotional type air can sometimes result in those kind of effects.

I think the key to avoiding those is something you said in an earlier post about maintaining valuable, relevant and up to date unique content that's fresh

and gives the reader either a new insight or at least a fresh perspective on an existing one.

Anytime you ignore Adsense's TOS you risk being banned from the program.  Other methods include sending emails to people who haven't signed up for them - usually through purchased lists, or promising that a program creates "passive income".

I don?t think that it?s Adsense that we should worry about but Google which is giving a page rank and also sending some free traffic to our site.  If we get a pr of zero then they would be sending us less traffic and in some other cases, none at all.

Here are a few things that can knock you way down in Google's search results:

1. Getting 100's or 1,000's of backlinks in a short peroid of time

2. Changing whois domain info or registrars

3. Lots of duplicate content

4. Updating to a really bad website design

The last few comments are really what I meant. The PayPerPost punishment was something I had heard of before so I was curious to know of more of these kind of limits on the AdSense TOS.

Not using Google Webmaster Tools to see if there are errors in your site.

The last thing you want is to not be optimized for the Google Search Engine.

link farms, duplicate content, porn content, black hat(spamming) methods, etc. can be dangerous.

Some good pointers to look out for here to make sure you're not being counter-productive in your efforts. It can be just as profitable to know what 'not to do' as it can be to know what to do, so those are some great suggestions.

Not using tools of Webmaster from Google to see whether there are errors in your site.

The last thing that you want must not be optimized for the Search Engine of Google.

Yes that is correct.  Using Google's Webmaster tools is very beneficial as Google sees that in trying to work with them.

It also helps their spiders better index your entire site once you upload your site map and so on.  If you really want to get indexed well with Google and start to increase your page rankings, I highly advise you get acquainted with Webmaster Tools.
