Generating traffic is both long term strategy and short term tactics.

It almost sounds like a contradiction doesn't it?

It very well could be if you made it just a choice between one or the other,

but the good news is, you don't have to sacrifice either one for the other

and your long term traffic generation strategy can be supplemented

with more immediate traffic.

A few examples of longer term traffic generation strategies are link building over time

with the purpose being to obtain one way backlinks to improve search engine rankings

and as a result, generating more traffic from search engines.

That's definitely important, but what about the short term?

Are you supposed to just go “trafficless” until you finally hit #1 on Google down the road?

No way!

In fact, if you want to, you can begin generating traffic to any website in the next 24 hours,

so let's get started, okay?

Great!

Here's a fun way I use to get both short term traffic and long term traffic quickly

and if you haven't tried it before, I think  you'll like it.

First, pick out your main keyword that you want to target so you're sure

the traffic you generate is perfectly relevant to whatever website you're sending

your visitors to using this method.

You can use a paid keyword research tool like keyword elite which I use myself because of all the advantages of real time strategic data provided or you could use the free Google keyword suggestion tool or the free version of wordtracker if you want to just get a good idea of what people are searching for in the niche most closely related to the content of your website.

Okay, now that you have your keyword phrase, it's time to visit Google alerts and Google Blogs alerts.

These are both services allowing you to create "alerts" in the form of emails sent directly to your inbox when your keyword occurs online.

You can set them to be sent at different intervals anywhere between once a day or even in real time as soon as they occur.

I like to get the real time alerts because it means you're getting a head's up jumpstart on others who may be following your keyword so you can beat them to the proverbial punch so to speak!

So you need to just sign up with both of these services and create accounts with both.

Guess how much they cost at the time of the publishing of this article?

FREE!

Sorry, got a little excited there for you. (There's nothing worse than a boring forum post, right?)

Okay, so you have your keyword chosen, your accounts created and now here comes the fun part.

Big G is sending you emails letting you know each time someone posts any content containing your keywords.

Just for the sake of this example so you can get a good picture of how this works,

let's just say I'm a traffic generation expert looking to generate targeted traffic.

I've entered my keywords related to traffic generation as the keywords to be monitored by Google alerts

so they send me emails letting me know each time my keyword is mentioned.

Well, as we know, search engines pride themselves on providing the most relevant and quality user experience for people searching.

So what is more valuable to the person searching for information on traffic generation, then a bona fide expert such as myself detailing exactly how to accomplish exactly what they are searching for?

That's right, nothing is more quality and nothing is more relevant!

So although the one searching wins out big because they get exactly what they're looking for,

Google wins for the same reasons.

Since I've created the alert letting me know a blog post has been posted to either start a conversation or to join in an existing conversation about the subject of my expertise, this means, I can simply join the conversation and answer their questions with the valuable solutions they are searching for.

When they see the information provided works, guess what the next natural response is?

A very large percentage of those reading my response will now follow the post back to my website by clicking on the clickable link appearing above the blog comment.

When they do this, it's near immediate traffic to any website I have included in the url field!

By responding in real time or at least to each site included in the alerts once a day,

you've created several comments of value directly related to your website with links pointing directly to your website so people interested in what your website is about will be the ones visiting your website!

Some blogs only require you answer a captcha code for immediate approval of your comment to appear live in real time, so that's near instant.

Now, to crank it up a notch.

As you're doing this, you can also choose forums which are talking about your keywords too

and join into those conversations with your helpful content as well.

When you have your website link in your signature appearing everytime you post,

everyone actively participating in that discussion community will see your post and have the opportunity, yet again, to click the link and visit your website!

Remember, one of the Google alerts was strictly for blogs only. The other one is for any kind of website, so you're not limited to the ones you can interact with to generate traffic.

Now, although, many of your comments will also give you the added benefit of longterm traffic from backlinks in the search results and future visits from those finding your comments and posts later,

all the visitors who are visiting the active sites you've posted and commented on in real time will be able to visit your website instantly just by clicking the link associated with your content.

This is how you can start generating free traffic from Google to your website in the next 24 hours!
